The Venus Fly Trap is native to the bogs of North and South Carolina. This highly evolved plant uses a mechanical action to “catch” its nutrition. The traps produce a reddish color inside the leaf and secrete a scent that attracts insects. Inside the traps are trigger hairs. To close a trap these trigger hairs need to be touched twice. This prevents the constant opening and closing that would occur during periods of rain. Once an insect is caught, the Venus Fly Trap will close tightly around its meal and begin digesting it.
The Venus Fly Trap plant (Dionaea Muscipula) is a species of carnivorous plants that contains a powerful immune modulator “naphthoquinone plumbagin.” Published scientific research indicates that plumbagins used in low doses are potent stimulators of macrophage activity(1), anti-mutagenic(2), elevates HDL(3), the good cholesterol, and prevented bacterial resistance to antibiotics in animal studies(4). Venus Fly Trap increases or normalizes body temperature and dramatically increases a sense of well-being and energy.
Dr. Helmut Keller, an oncologist and medical director of the Chronic Disease Control and Treatment Center in Bad Steben, Germany first studied Venus Fly Trap at Boston University in 1980.
According to Dr. Keller, Venus Fly Trap is effective in treating ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, neurodermitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, HIV infection, and a certain kind of herpes. In cancer it works therapeutically to shrink solid tumors.
